What is golden hour?

Golden Hour is the last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise which are desired by professional photographers. Referred to as “the golden hour” or “magic hour,” these times create the perfect light to capture and embrace stunning photos. Golden Hour is when daylight is redder and softer than when the sun is higher in the sky. Golden hour is also sometimes called the "magic hour," especially by most cinematographers and photographers.

Blue Hour is the moment of time just after the sunset. It is around dusk when the sky takes on indigo hues and right before it gets completely dark. It's not something that can be recreated even using the the best photo editing apps.

The importance:

When it's Golden Hour or Blue Hour it's hard to overexpose or underexpose parts of an image. Examples of this are the subject's face, because the light is extremely even and has a beautiful soft tone to it. If you capture photography straight in the open sun then your photos will be most likely over exposed because of the sun. This is why most photographers prefer to shoot in either the evenings or the mornings when the sun is at it's lowest. If you plan on having a wedding and want the best lighting for photos then make sure to plan your wedding accordingly and plan for photos around dusk or right before. If you have a photographer that has the equipment and staff to handle those hard sun tones then by all means shoot for the middle of the day or find areas where the sun is less engaged (example: Trees are a great place because they can create beautiful shadows and cover more of the harsh light).
